MPOUROS REEF
“Mpouros Reef” is a unique dive site located in open waters within the Karystos Gulf, approximately 0.5 nautical miles from the nearest beach at the western edge of the gulf.
The impressive top of the reef begins at a depth of 5 meters and descends to around 35 meters, forming an underwater pyramid. This feature makes it accessible to divers of all levels, with the depth changing gradually, offering a safe and enjoyable exploration experience.
The strategic position of the reef often attracts schools of pelagic fish, creating a spectacular sight for visitors. The reef’s top is permanently inhabited by schools of damselfish and small fish seeking shelter from larger predators. The rocky structure is adorned with colorful sponges, while an extensive network of small tunnels hosts groupers, scorpionfish, and moray eels.
“Mpouros Reef” is easily accessible by boat and relatively protected from strong northern winds, making it a safe destination for diving. The site is also ideal for night dives, offering a completely different perspective of the underwater world.
